The short version

  • Life admin is boring and easy to postpone, so it piles up into crises.
  • A short weekly session catches things while they’re small.
  • Use the same five blocks in the same order every week.

Life admin is the invisible work of adulthood: bills, forms, appointments, renewals, emails you owe. It’s boring, it has no clear start and it piles up quietly. With ADHD, it often waits until it’s urgent, which is when it costs the most.

The Weekly Admin Hour is a 30-minute session at the same time every week. Nothing can hide for more than seven days.

The five blocks

MinutesBlockWhat to do
0–5Mail stationEmpty the inbox into Act, Pay, File and Toss
5–12MoneyWhat’s due in 7 days? Any fees or new subscriptions? Pay or schedule
12–20Action listDo the two smallest items, then one step on the biggest
20–25CalendarNext two weeks: appointments, renewals, birthdays
25–30Follow-upsChase anything overdue, file papers, write next week’s first task

Make it easier to start

  • Same day, same time, attached to something you already do.
  • A 30-minute playlist. When the music ends, you’re done.
  • A body double. See body doubling.
  • A reward afterward, chosen in advance.

Low-energy week? Do only the first two blocks. Mail and money are the ones that cost you when they slip.

Missed a week?

No catch-up marathon. Just do the normal 30 minutes, starting with money. Two normal weeks and you’re caught up.

Your monthly add-on

Once a month, add 15 minutes: check subscriptions, look at next month’s birthdays and renewals, and move money into savings buckets.
