How to Reset After an Interrupted Day (Without Writing It Off)
A sick kid, a surprise meeting, a long call: when your day gets derailed, these six reset steps help you save what matters and restart tomorrow.
Most plans only work on good days. This one starts with how much energy you have, and gives you a full, minimum or rescue version of the day.

Most productivity advice assumes you have a full tank. ADHD energy is often uneven: some days are bursting, others feel like moving through mud. A plan that only works on good days fails you on the days you need it most.
Rate four things from 1 to 5: body energy, brain power, mood and free time. Our energy check-in tool does this in 30 seconds and tells you which kind of day it is.
| Day | When | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Full day | Mostly 4s and 5s | Your usual plan. Don’t spend tomorrow’s energy today. |
| Minimum day | Mostly 2s and 3s | Six basics and nothing else is required |
| Rescue day | Any 1s, or you just know | Only the first three basics. Rest is the task. |
On a rescue day, do 1–3 only.
The rule: you never have to catch up on a low day. Tomorrow starts fresh, from the minimum.
The day after a low stretch, start with a minimum day even if you feel okay. Pick one overdue thing, not all of them.
If low days last two weeks or more, or you feel hopeless, talk with a doctor. In the US you can call or text 988 any time.
